Retirement Planning Workshop for Faculty/Staff of Yale University-Session 2
-Estate Planning: We'll "de-mystify" the probate process by reviewing a hypothecial case of a person dying and how probate could work in "real life." The focus will be on the duties of the executor and an the role of "a letter of instruction" to facilitate the process. Participants will leave with a better understanding of probate and who might best serve as the executor. We'll also consider advance directives and their important role in and estate plan.
-Social Security, Medicare, and Health Insurance Planning-After reviewing the "Basics of Social Security" (how much will I get; when will I get it; and what do I have to do to get it), we'll consider the "best time to take Social Security"; how spousal and widow's benefits work; and can you work and still collect benefits. We'll also review the Basics of Medicare and why it's important to shop carefully for an insurance plan to cover what Medicare does not.
